Your Claude Code Limit Drops 17% on September 14 — Plan Before the Cut Lands

TL;DR: The Claude Code 50% usage promo ends September 14 and is replaced by a permanent 25% raise. If your baseline is 100 tokens, you’ve been running on 150 all summer; September 14 drops you to 125. That’s a 17% cut from where you are today.

Anthropic’s @ClaudeDevs account posted on August 30: the promotional 50% usage boost, originally announced for the summer and already extended once to August 31, is getting a final two-week extension to September 14. After that date, it does not return — it’s replaced by a permanent 25% raise above the original baseline.

The math: baseline × 1.5 (today) vs baseline × 1.25 (September 14 onward). The difference is 17% less capacity than you have right now.

What to do before September 14

Run /usage inside Claude Code to see your current consumption pattern. If you’ve been averaging near the limit, you have two weeks to identify the workflows that eat the most context — long exploratory sessions, large-file reads, verbose agents — and either tighten them or spread them differently.

The permanent raise is real and meaningful

A 25% permanent increase above the original baseline is a genuine improvement. The framing in @ClaudeDevs’ announcement is straightforward about the tradeoff: the promo ends, the permanent floor is higher than it was before the summer. If you were on the original baseline before June, you are better off after September 14 than you were then.

The limit Anthropic acknowledged

The announcement notes the team is "working on more visibility and control" over usage — no timeline given. Right now, /usage shows totals but not per-session breakdowns or projections. If you need to plan around a lower ceiling, the audit is manual.
