Claude Cowork Gets a Built-In Browser; GPT-5.6 Sol Dropped 20% a Week Ago

Two quick updates: Claude's desktop app now handles web tasks without your browser, and GPT-5.6 Sol is 20%+ cheaper on the API.

Claude Cowork built-in browser (Aug 26): The Claude desktop app opens a side-panel browser when a task needs to hit a website. Claude navigates, reads, clicks, and fills forms inside it — no Playwright session, no browser MCP server, no computer-use setup required. Live on Enterprise now; rolling out to Pro, Max, and Team over the coming week on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Hard limits to know: banking, email, and SSO sites are excluded by default; existing-session logins must be imported one at a time from Chrome or Firefox; Claude cannot see your existing tabs, bookmarks, or saved passwords.

GPT-5.6 Sol price cut (Aug 21): Input dropped from $5 to $4 per million tokens, output from $30 to $20 — a promotional rate through at least November 21. Luna's 80% cut (to $0.20 input / $1.20 output) was covered here August 27; this is the Sol companion cut.

Why it matters: The Cowork browser replaces a meaningful chunk of browser-automation MCP work for researchers and task-automation users. And Sol's API cost now sits closer to Opus 5 on the frontier tier — benchmark both on your real workload before committing; neither lab's numbers are independent measurements.
