Four days after the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 export control shutdown, prediction markets have established a consensus timeline for when access might return. Kalshi is pricing restoration at 68% before July 1, with interim resolution markets showing:
- Before June 20: 51% probability
- Before July 1: 68% probability
Polymarket is slightly more optimistic at 71% before July 1. Both markets treat the ban as likely temporary — but not imminent.
Why June 22 is the key date. Anthropic has a scheduled in-person meeting with White House officials on June 22, per Washington Examiner and TechJuice. White House AI czar David Sacks stated publicly that the administration "wants all of this to happen as soon as possible" and that restoration is contingent solely on Anthropic patching the reported vulnerability. "The Admin's hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release," Sacks said.
The dispute isn't whether there's a jailbreak — it's what it means. Anthropic has not denied the technique exists; its position is that it was "a relatively simple, non-universal jailbreak that could be achieved with other models" and does not meet the bar for a full model recall. Sacks says Amodei "refused to fix" it; Anthropic's version is it was given only verbal evidence and asked to act on something it couldn't technically evaluate. The June 22 meeting is where both sides have a chance to move from public messaging to technical resolution.
What BusinessToday's June 16 reporting adds. Per BusinessToday, the White House's underlying concern is specifically about Chinese national access — the 90-minute window was driven by a belief that a group with ties to China may have already obtained access to Mythos capabilities. This context matters for how the remediation conversation goes: a technical jailbreak patch might not be sufficient if the core concern is access-control — verification of who actually used the model.
For teams watching the timeline. If the 51%-before-June-20 market is directionally right, you may know within days whether there's a path to restoration in the next two weeks. If June 22 passes without resolution, expect the market to reprice significantly toward "after July 1." In either scenario, your Opus 4.8 fallback paths should be tested and ready — do not assume calendar-based restoration and plan around it.
